Habitat for Humanity Chicago was looking to construct one of it’s first larger community developments. Located in the Chicago’s neighborhood of West Pullman, the new-construction development consists of 20 townhouses. There are five buildings, each with four 2-story townhouses on this 1.2 acres site. Each owner has a private garage with a community garden area for residences to gather and socialize. The site sites along west side of the Major Taylor Trail, and 8-mile recreational trail. The townhouses are designed to give residence contemporary and luxurious living while focusing on energy efficiency. Each townhouse is fully electric, including all appliances, water heating, and heat pumps for HVAC. Each garage also has capabilities for electrical vehicle charging, going beyond code minimum. This development is an excellent example of a project that meets the needs of both residents and the community as a whole.
